Our Approach

Our Approach

Having spent over five years in Arizona Department of Corrections and working for Criminal Law Firms in Phoenix before and after prison, we believe in approaching each potential case and person as an opportunity to share our "lived experience" and to demonstrate how we have moved on from our pasts in a way that we just do not believe a law firm can do.  We have walked in the same shoes and would love to show you, not tell you, how to move into the best years of your life... those ahead of you as a Restored Citizen to our community.

Our Story

Our Story

Founder & CEO, Michael Harris, previously known as Michael Smith, has been sentenced to the Arizona Department of Corrections for a total of 13 years, with an additional 8 years of Standard Probation, Intensive Probation and Community Supervision for a total of 21 years "on paper."  While on house arrest in 2012, facing 15.75 - 35 years in prison for decisions made while battling Prescription Opioid Addiction, Michael and his wife, Leah, determined to create a positive outcome from a terrible situation.  Michael registered RestoreMyCivilRights.com just before being sentenced to a greatly reduced sentence of 3 years of which he served 13 months in Marana and 15 months in Douglas.  During this 28 months, Michael obtained he Paralegal Certificate through Blackstone Career Institute, which allowed him to return to the community with a job at a local Criminal Law firm, where he advocated for clients' positive outcomes and access to community resources, instead of lengthy prison terms.

After working for a year and half with 2 Phoenix law firms, Michael committed himself to helping others, like himself, return to their communities after incarceration with a positive outlook and the skills needed to move forward in life.  This work is being developed along side RMCR as a non-profit initiative, Valjean Society, Inc.

Whether assisting clients with the Restoration of Civil Rights, Setting Aside Judgments of Guilt, Restoring Right to Possess a Gun or Firearm or working with individuals on life skills, housing, education or career opportunities through Valjean Society, we are committed to partnering with those who have survived their legal challenges and are now ready to thrive in their new life!
